Today's lesson plan has been contributed by Ms. Sarah Chevailler, former colleague, friend and mentor of mine, who has the experience of working as an IB educator, Coordinator and Principal, in many institutions across the world. I would really like to thank her for the valuable time she has taken to frame this lesson for my class..

Reality and Truth are two words that are often misunderstood to convey the same meaning but strictly speaking they are not so. Reality is an existent fact whereas truth is an established fact. There is lot of difference between an existent fact and an established fact.
Reality has been existent ever since the beginning of the universe. On the other hand truth is something that you have proved. Truth is the exactness of a fact. Hence it is something you try to establish. This is the main difference between reality and truth.
The difference between reality and truth is akin to difference between a discovery and invention. A discovery is self existent or something that has been existent right from the past, whereas invention is the one that has been found out with the help of the discovered facts.
In the same way reality is the one that does not change its nature in the present and future too. It is always of the same nature. On the other hand truth can change its nature in due course. Many scientific truths were disproved in the past. The truth about the planetary motion was re-established later. Hence truth sometimes is bound to change.
Reality tells us about the real nature of a particular thing, experience, existence and the like. Truth tells about the fact that has been invented or experimented. In other words it can be said that reality gives rise to truth.
What is found out in reality is what is given ultimately as truth. Hence truth needs the observance of reality. This is especially true in the case of Science. The reality about planetary motion with the sun at the center has been stated as the scientific truth. Hence truth is the subset of reality.
Another important difference between reality and truth is that reality cannot be challenged whereas truth can be challenged. Truth can be challenged because it is characterized by facts. Facts can always be challenged and disproved. It is important to note that proven facts are more in number though.
Reality is not questionable whereas truth is questionable. Reality has nothing to do with power. It is all about authenticity. Authenticity is the proof regarding the original. Hence it can be said that reality is original. It is indeed the factor of authenticity that separates reality from truth
On the other hand truth is all about power. As a conclusion it can be said that it takes time for reality to become truth. How long it takes for the reality to become truth lies in the hands of man. Man needs the power to establish the truth in the reality that has been existent for long.

Truth Vs Reality - The Power of Knowing the Difference and Four Keys to Help You Make the Change
All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them. ~ Galileo
Do you know what reality is? Can you tell the difference between reality and Truth? Do you want to experience the power of knowing the difference? Let me share a hard-won life lesson with you. We had fought... once again. He left the house, got in the car and drove away, tires screaming on the driveway. I watched him from our porch as he careened around the corner, probably headed to the neighborhood bar. There, he could have a few beers and get some sympathy from his friends. In the meantime, I sat on the porch floor, head bowed against the rails, tears streaming down my face. Would it ever get any better? Could we possibly survive all the anger, bitterness and frustration? You see, my reality at the time was no money, or not enough, anyway. My reality was a husband who either wouldn't or couldn't find ways to make more. My reality was a daughter who needed 'stuff', and there was no way to get it. It felt like my reality would never change Here is what I learned as I sat bawling on the porch that day. I told God-wherever He was-that I could not do this anymore. I could not deal with the strife and fear and anger. I told Him in my own crushed, arrogant way, that I was not going to depend on my husband anymore for anything. That if I was going to get it-whatever IT was-that He would have to provide it. It was obvious to me that my husband certainly wouldn't... or couldn't. That was the day I began to discover the difference between reality and Truth. You see, reality is whatever you are experiencing right now in your life. The thing is, reality can change. Your situation today may be totally different tomorrow... or the next day. Rich or broke, healthy or ill, happy or sad, all the physical and emotional circumstances of your life are as changeable as the tides. Truth, on the other hand, is eternal, unchangeable, and totally trustworthy. Gravity never stops working. Seasons change. The sun rises and sets daily. You don't have to think about any of those things, they just are. BUT, if you learn about them, study them and put their eternal power to work in your life, you can change your circumstances, your reality. For years, people thought man could never fly. Then early scientists learned and tested the truths of lift, airflow and gravity. The Wright Brothers changed man's reality. Edison developed a light bulb. Columbus sailed to the edge of the world and beyond, proving it wasn't flat. Henry Ford used the 'new' principles of multiplied effort and changed manufacturing forever. All of the eternal Truths that science eventually discovers have existed for eternity. They originated in and are sustained by Infinite Mind, Eternal Spirit, God.
